Lightning Color

How to Choose the Right Lightning Color for Your Spaces

When designing a space, whether industrial, corporate, or commercial, the choice of lighting color is crucial, as it directly shapes the overall atmosphere. Yet, this aspect is often underestimated.

Take a simple example: no one would want to dine in an upscale restaurant with harsh, cold lighting, as it would completely undermine the intended ambiance. The same principle applies to all types of spaces, where lighting plays a key role in both perception and comfort.

Understanding the different light colors allows you to make informed choices that suit each environment.

The Kelvin Scale: Understanding Light Color

In lighting, the Kelvin scale is used to define the color of light. The lower the value (around 2,200 K), the warmer and more yellow the light appears. Conversely, higher values (around 6,500 K) produce a cooler, whiter light. These two extremes illustrate the wide range of possibilities available.

Of course, other factors also come into play when designing lighting, such as beam angles or the Color Rendering Index (CRI). However, light color, expressed in Kelvins, remains a fundamental element to consider.

It’s important to understand that there is no single “best” light color, only the one that best suits a specific purpose. The choice of color temperature should always be made based on the context and environment in which it will be used.

Warm, Cool, or Somewhere in Between: What Should You Choose?

We support a wide range of businesses in selecting their lighting solutions, giving us a deep understanding of the specific needs of each environment. Here are a few guidelines to help you decide.

Industrial environments

In industrial settings, such as manufacturing facilities, where precision and visibility are essential, a very cool white light (around 6,500 K) is recommended. This type of lighting enhances detail visibility and helps maintain high operational quality.

Office Spaces

In office environments, the goal is to promote focus while ensuring visual comfort. Lighting that is too cool can feel harsh, while overly warm lighting may become tiring over time. A neutral tone, between 3,500 K and 4,000 K, is typically the best balance, providing a pleasant atmosphere without a yellow tint.

retail spaces

In retail, lighting plays a highly strategic role, as it directly influences how customers perceive products. Each type of product requires a specific tone and intensity, whether it’s furniture, clothing, or other goods.

In clothing stores especially, the choice of lighting is critical. Flattering light helps customers feel confident when trying on items, enhancing their overall experience. More broadly, well-designed lighting makes a space more inviting and appealing, which can have a direct impact on customer experience, and ultimately, on sales.

The Importance of Lightning Consistency

Beyond choosing the right light color, it’s essential to ensure consistency throughout a space. While it may seem obvious, there is still a common misconception that two fixtures placed side by side with different tones won’t create a noticeable contrast. In reality, even someone without lighting expertise will immediately spot the difference.

Inconsistent lighting can negatively impact the customer experience and diminish a brand’s perceived professionalism.
